We use the D70. It's a great camera. You won't be disappointed with the D40 either.
I have been wanting a D40 ever since Geneva took our engagement photos with hers. Out of my budget for now, but one day it will be mine (or a super awesome camera very similar) :)
(my D90 and your D40 will play someday)
